Set and Setting

Set and setting are two important components during a psychedelic experience. The set refers to someone’s mindset as they take a psychedelic substance or undergo an experience. Setting refers to the external environment, usually the social environment, in which the person is located. Someone’s overall mindset during the experience can play a significant role in what they feel. The experience can also be influenced by the social setting in which people take the psychedelic substance. Set and setting can also play an important role as someone receives treatment for a mental health issue. Changing the set and setting can change someone’s experience even if they take the same substance.
